Water, Divided: Records
Water, Divided: Records
Accordion book, machine printed

In 2013, I walked 3,000 miles from Canada to Mexico along the Continental Divide Trail. The route attempts to follow the Continental Divide as closely as possible- since the Continental Divide dictates the direction precipitation that falls on the continent will flow, to walk this route is to think about the path of water. I chose to keep a record of all the water I used to stay alive during this time as well as water that I encountered in the form of rain or snow. Whenever possible, I photographed my water sources.

After the hike I assembled my photographs and data into an accordion book that in itself resembles a path and a mountain range. I also created a series of 30 drawings showing the topographical details of my path, the Continental Divide, and the water I drank. A selection of the drawings can be found in the "Works on Paper" portion of this website.
